INTRODUCTION TO TECHNICAL DRAWINGS

TASK

This assignment requires our observational skills to accurately map out the specific forms and shapes of an object. We were required to produce plan, elevation and section drawings to scale of our chosen item to showcase our ability of converting 3D objects into orthographic drawings.

PROGRESS

Before going about this assignment, we were tasked with procuring an object that was suitable to be used. For example, the object had to be smaller than an A4-sized paper and symmetrical in one direction. This is to ensure the difficulty of the assignment is preserved. After thorough discussions with my lecturer, I settled on a reasonably challenging object; an oddly-shaped saucer.

After specifying my object, I went to work on completing the drawings; a plan view, 3 elevations and a section of the object. Starting with a sketch of the object, I made sure to properly measure all necessary dimensions in order to create an accurate representation on paper. Throughout the weeks, I have gained helpful information during tutorials to help improve my drawing.

Nearing the submission date of the assignment, I polished up my drawings and made sure to include dimension lines, borders and a title block. The assignment was my first exposure on the need to create efficient measurement indications and informative title blocks for each drawing.

OUTCOME

All in all, the assignment resonated positively within me as a starting path towards the architectural world. Along the way, I realized the importance of efficiency in terms of the understanding of my drawings as well as accurately down-sizing/up-sizing elements to scale.
