TASK

Individually, we were to produce a foldable pamphlet of roughly 6-10 pages about our respective hometowns; we were to explain the background, landmarks and accessibility of our hometown. After that, we were required to zoom in into a township within the hometown to explain the tangible components, such as zoning, road circulation and infrastructure, as well as intangible components such as culture, activity and safety. We also needed to identify our favourite components of the area and an overall conclusion to the pamphlet.

PROGRESS

Since this was individual work, I set out to complete this assignment immediately. Naturally, I chose my hometown of Bintulu in Sarawak to be showcased. As I had most of the main points in my head, I focused on presenting an attractive layout with emphasis of colourful infographics and icons to capture the reader's attention. I chose to use markers as my colour medium; simply because they provide that vibrant pop that was needed to make my pamphlet truly stand out.

For the front page, I purposely left it uncoloured as it was suitable for the theme of my pamphlet, "My Nostalgic Hometown". It was meant to invoke the black-and-white nostalgic feeling of the past, especially as I chose the old town area as the subject of the cover. Also, I felt that the raw monochrome cover page contrasted well with the colourful interior, mimicking the rapid development of my booming industrial hometown.

OUTCOME

I was satisfied that I managed to complete my pamphlet a few days early than the submission date. This allowed my to focus on other more demanding assignments without worrying about the progress of this one.

REFLECTION

Throughout this assignment, I have learnt many interesting things about my hometown that I did not know, by carrying out thorough research. It made me more independent and smart in picking out important information to be showcased in the pamphlet as we were meant to promote our hometown to the reader. Besides that, I overcame several problems by finding for effective solutions during the assignment. For example, I was pointed out that the features of my township were confusing as there were no indication of the locations of these buildings or infrastructure. As such, I improvised by placing a legend next to the zoning map and labeling the features with numbers or letters that were present in the map.
