THE NATURE JOURNAL
TASK

We were to watch the "Earth (2007)" documentary in the Library theathrette. In an A4-sized document, we were required to document information regarding flora and fauna elements, natural settings, natural phenomena. Besides that, we also needed to elaborate in detail our favourite scene, an environmental issue as well as reflect on my overall thoughts about nature shown in the movie.
PROGRESS
The title that I have come up with is "Standing Up for Nature". Firstly, I determined the flora and fauna that I will showcase in the journal: The humpback whale, great white shark and Arctic wolf for the fauna element, as well as the snowdrop, black spruce and acacia for the flora element. IÂ started structuring the layout for each of those elements. After approval, I started working on colouring them using colour pencils as the medium.
-
Next, I started working on the other pages such as nature setting and phenomena. I chose to use the boreal forests of Europe and the Kalahari Desert for the setting. For the natural phenomena, I chose to use the aurora borealis and the sunset. Again, after determining the layout, I started work on the colouring. All in all, the duration spent on the "Experiencing Nature" part took about 3-4 days to finalize and complete.
-
Lastly, I started work on the "Introduction" and "Appreciating Nature" parts of the journal. It took me a few hours to brainstorm the layout and content required for the pages. I made sure to note the references for the information as well, to be listed in the references section. It took about a week to complete these parts and to finish touching up details on everything.
REFLECTION
At the end of the assignment, I realized that I have learnt to present data in an infographic manner; as in the importance of using informative graphics and less words. Besides that, I had also garnered useful information regarding nature and the importance of conserving nature. It made me more ecologically aware of the environment and also appreciate the uniqueness of all the flora and fauna on Earth. Furthermore, I had to be more independent in the context of finding information and researching. I know how to procure information quickly and effectively, selecting only the ones that I need.

LIFELONG LEARNING
I am able to learn independently as well as locate, extract, synthesize and utilize information effectively.
DIGITAL LITERACY
I am able to effectively use ICT and related technologies.
INTRAPERSONAL SKILLS
I have learnt to be self-reliant and manage myself as well as reflect on my actions and learning.
