TOWNSHIP RE-IMAGINED: SS15
TASK
We were required to conduct a township study on-site at SS15. The task was separated into macro study; where we were to focus on the background, significant components and accessibility of Subang Jaya (where SS15 is located), and also micro study; where we focused on SS15 itself. After that, we were to produce a SWOT study, addressing the (S)trength, (W)eakness, (O)pportunity and (T)hreat of SS15 based on the study done on-site. In turn, we needed to come up with a strategy to improve the township as well as elaborate on the idea. Lastly, we were to think of an implementation layout by using various infographics to better realize the concept.
PROGRESS
During the on-site study, we carefully divided tasks among group members; where different members focused on different parts of the assignment. After collectively compiling data, we gathered them in PowerPoint slides as per request from Ms Reene (click on the button below for the slides). Then, when the information was approved in the next tutorial, we began laying them out into the boards.
-
The strategy that we had come up with was "The Togethering Plaza". It is a two-storey plaza that could house a festival. This was important as we emphasized on the strength of SS15 which was the diversity of shops available there. As such, a festival could be held at the proposed plaza that could boost popularity and attract attention to the township. Besides that, the plaza doubles as a car park during non-festival periods to overcome the road congestion issue that frequently occurs in the area.
OUTCOME
Thankfully, we managed to finish our boards in time for the silent crit evaluation. However, we were called into the evaluation room being part of a select number of groups to present our strategy to the panel. We received invaluable advice and suggestions from them during the presentation. They praised our strategy as it was suitable to the SWOT study given. I was satisfied and gained good experience from the evaluation.
REFLECTION
During the assignment, I learnt a lot about teamwork. We improved on our respective skills when working as a team and strengthened our bonds by communicating effortlessly. We also overcame our differences by understanding opinions from opposing perspectives.
